Do I need a zoning permit?
Yes. A zoning permit is required for all types of construction including residential new dwellings, garages, sheds, fences, pools, patio and porch covers, decks, additions, alterations, exterior structural repairs, all commercial construction, signs and tents, and driveways.
How do I apply for a zoning permit?
Submit a completed zoning permit application with fee (Cash, Check, or Money Order only), a site plan showing distances from structures to property lines, construction drawings, and Board of Health septic approval if applicable. Submit to the Zoning Inspector at 8 Brush Row Road, Xenia, Ohio 45385.

How do I check the status of my permit?
Visit our online Permit Portal or contact the Township Office.
Can I place signs on the roadside?
No. Ohio law states that signs cannot be placed in road rights-of-way. Signs should be placed behind telephone poles, in farm fields, or behind sidewalks with property owner consent. Improperly placed signs will be removed.

Fire & EMS Questions
What number do I call in an emergency?
Always call 911 for a medical emergency or fire.
How can I get a reflective address sign?
Contact the Xenia Township Firefighters Community Association for a 6×18-inch reflective address sign for your mailbox post.
Can I have an open burn on my property?
Open burning regulations vary by location. Cooking fires, heating for outdoor workers, and certain agricultural and landscape waste burning may be permitted outside restricted areas. Materials containing rubber, grease, asphalt, petroleum products, garbage, and dead animals may never be burned. Contact the Fire Department for specific guidance.
Road Department Questions
How do I report a pothole or road issue?

What if a snowplow damages my mailbox?
If your mailbox is damaged by direct contact from Township equipment, the Road Department will replace it with a standard breakaway post and USPS-approved steel mailbox. Damage from thrown or pushed snow does not qualify for replacement.
Do I need a permit for a driveway?
Yes. Driveway permits must be approved by the Road Superintendent. Contact the Township Office for an application.
